- Jesus gets His hands dirty (Luke 15:8; Matthew ; Luke ; Isaiah 49:15-18)
- You never lose value to Jesus (Luke 15:9: Ezekiel 16:8-14; Isaiah 62:1-5)
- You can't save yourself (Luke ; John 3:3; Quote; Zephaniah 3:16-17)
8 Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won't she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it?
33 Jesus also used this illustration: 'The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread...'
35 Two women will be grinding flour together at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.
15 Can a mother forget her nursing child? Never! Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! 16 See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands. Always in my mind is a picture of Jerusalem's walls in ruins. 17 Soon your descendants will come back, and all who are trying to destroy you will go away. 18 Look around you and see, for all your children will come back to you. 'As surely as I live,' says the LORD, 'they will be like jewels or bridal ornaments for you to display.'
9 And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.'
8 I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine. 9 Then I bathed you and washed off your blood, and I rubbed fragrant oils into your skin. 10 I gave you expensive clothing of fine linen and silk, beautifully embroidered, and sandals made of fine goatskin leather. 11 I gave you lovely jewelry, bracelets, beautiful necklaces, 12 a ring for your nose, earrings for your ears, and a lovely crown for your head. 13 And so you were adorned with gold and silver. Your clothes were made of fine linen and were beautifully embroidered. You ate the finest foods—choice flour, honey, and olive oil—and became more beautiful than ever. You looked like a queen, and so you were! 14 Your fame soon spread throughout the world because of your beauty. I dressed you in my splendor and perfected your beauty, says the Sovereign LORD.
1 Because I love Zion, I will not keep still. Because my heart yearns for Jerusalem, I cannot remain silent. I will not stop praying for her until her righteousness shines like the dawn, and her salvation blazes like a burning torch. 2 The nations will see your righteousness. World leaders will be blinded by your glory. And you will be given a new name by the LORD's own mouth. 3 The LORD will hold you in his hand for all to see— a splendid crown in the hand of God. 4 Never again will you be called 'The Forsaken City' or 'The Desolate Land.' Your new name will be 'The City of God's Delight' and 'The Bride of God,' for the LORD delights in you and will claim you as his bride. 5 Your children will commit themselves to you, O Jerusalem, just as a young man commits himself to his bride. Then God will rejoice over you as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.
10 In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God's angels when even one sinner repents.
John 3:3 (Scripture Reading)
3 Jesus replied, 'I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.'
Theological Hmm: A child knows how to accept a gift. He does not worry about losing his dignity or becoming indebted if he accepts it. His conscience does not bother him because the gift is free and he has not earned it and therefore really has no right to it. He just takes it, with joy. In fact, if it is something that he wants very much, he may even ask for it. And lastly, a child knows how to trust. It is late at night and very dark and there is the sound of sirens as his father wakes him. He does not explain anything but just takes him by the hand and gets him up, and the child is scared out of his wits and has no idea what is going on, but he takes his father's hand anyway and lets his father lead him wherever he chooses into the darkness. - Frederick Buechner
17 Cheer up, Zion! Don't be afraid! 17 For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in youwith gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.
