FAITH THAT WORKS
by Pastor Mike Fortune
November 18, 2017

Intro: Amazing Grace (ft. Alex Boyé) | The Five Strings
  1. The greatest miracles of faith aren't about mustard seeds or moving mountains (Luke 17:5-6; Mark 11:23-24)
  2. The greatest miracles of faith are forgiving again and again (Luke 17:3-4)
  3. And working willingly for the Master just to please Him (Luke 17:7-9; 1 Corinthians 9:16-19; Colossians 3:23-24)
Luke 17:5-6
5 The apostles said to the Lord, "Show us how to increase our faith." 6 The Lord answered, "If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea,' and it would obey you!

Mark 11:23-24
23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. 24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you've received it, it will be yours. 25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.

Luke 17:3-4
3 So watch yourselves! "If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. 4 Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive."

Luke 17:7-9
7 "When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, 'Come in and eat with me'? 8 No, he says, 'Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.' 9 And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not.10 In the same way, when you obey me you should say, 'We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.'"

1 Corinthians 9:16-19 (Scripture Reading)
16 Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn't preach the Good News!  17 If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust. 18 What then is my pay? It is the opportunity to preach the Good News without charging anyone. That's why I never demand my rights when I preach the Good News. 19 Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24
23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.
