Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing p.149
Religion consists in doing the words of Christ; not doing to earn God's favor, but because, all undeserving, we have received the gift of His love.
Romans 11:5-6 (NIV) (Also Scripture reading)
5 So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. 6 And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
Noah from flood (Gen.6:8 cf. Grace always associated with remnant; even though he drank / not perfect)
Abraham remnant from the nations to bless the nations (Gen.12:3 cf. 20:7 remnant prophet lied)
Joseph's eleven brothers rescued (Gen.45:7)
Israel from Egyptian slavery (Exodus 19:4; 4 I carried you on eagles' wings)
Israel from conquest by Assyria (Isaiah 37:32)
Isaiah 37:32
32 For a remnant of my people will spread out from Jerusalem, a group of survivors from Mount Zion. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven's Armies will make this happen!
God’s zeal will accomplish saving of the remnant. Remnant has never been about us but about God. Ezra 9:6 For our sins are piled higher than our heads, and our guilt has reached to the heavens.
Israel from Babylon
Ezra 9:8-9
8 "But now we have been given a brief moment of grace, for the LORD our God has allowed a few of us to survive as a remnant. He has given us security in this holy place. Our God has brightened our eyes and granted us some relief from our slavery. 9 For we were slaves, but in his unfailing love our God did not abandon us in our slavery. Instead, he caused the kings of Persia to treat us favorably. He revived us so we could rebuild the Temple of our God and repair its ruins. He has given us a protective wall in Judah and Jerusalem.
Jeremiah 50:20
20 In those days," says the LORD, "no sin will be found in Israel or in Judah, for I will forgive the remnant I preserve."
Micah 7:18-19
18 Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people?
Isaiah 28:5
5 Then at last the LORD of Heaven's Armies will himself be Israel's glorious crown. He will be the pride and joy of the remnant of his people.
