  1. Prayer is about listening (Krakatoa's Eruption 1883; 1 Samuel 3:9; Jeremiah 29:12-14; Jeremiah 29:1,10-11; Psalm 46:10; Psalm 46:6,8-9,11)
  2. Twice as much as you talk (1 Samuel 3:9; Quote; Isaiah 9:6)
  3. And making time for God (1 Samuel 3:9; Matthew 4:4; How God Speaks to Us; Isaiah 41:13; Isaiah 49:15-16; How Pastor Mike Prays; Quotes)

1 Samuel 3:9

Jeremiah 29:1,10-11

1 Jeremiah wrote a letter from Jerusalem to the elders, priests, prophets, and all the people who had been exiled to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar. 10 You will be in Babylon for seventy years. 11 For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

Psalm 46:10

10 Be still, and know that I am God!

Psalm 46:6,8-9,11

6 The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! 8 Come, see the glorious works of the LORD: See how he brings destruction upon the world. 9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 11 The LORD of Heaven's Armies is here among us.

1 Samuel 3:9

9 So he said to Samuel, "Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, 'Speak, LORD, your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went back to bed.

Prayer is not about advising the Almighty.

Isaiah 9:6

6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God.

1 Samuel 3:9

9 So he said to Samuel, "Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, 'Speak, LORD, your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went back to bed.

Philip Yancey

I spend time with my closest friends not because of what they can do for me but for the pleasure of their company. How can I do that with God?

Dan Postema

I used to write in my daily calendar "7-7:30am - Prayer." But many times I passed that up. It was one more thing to pass by that day. Now I write "7-7:30am - God." Somehow that's a little harder to neglect.
