SHOULD WE KEEP LOOKING?
by Pastor Mike Fortune
October 17, 2015

  1. When dealing with doubt (Luke 7:18-19; Job 13:15; Matthew 27:46)
  2. When dealing with disappointment (Luke 7:20-23; 1 Kings 19:4)
  3. Yes, because Jesus defends us (Luke 7:24-26; John 5:33,35; Hebrews 10:35-37)

All Scripture from NLT unless otherwise indicated

Luke 7:18-19
18 The disciples of John the Baptist told John about everything Jesus was doing. So John called for two of his disciples, 19 and he sent them to the Lord to ask him, "Are you the Messiah we've been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?"

Job 13:15 (NKJV)
15 Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.

Matthew 27:46 (NKJV)
46 “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Luke7:20-23
20 John's two disciples found Jesus and said to him, "John the Baptist sent us to ask, 'Are you the Messiah we've been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?'" 21 At that very time, Jesus cured many people of their diseases, illnesses, and evil spirits, and he restored sight to many who were blind. 22 Then he told John's disciples, "Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard—the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor. 23 And tell him, 'God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.'"

1 Kings 19:4
4 Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died."

Luke 7:24-26
24 After John's disciples left, Jesus began talking about him to the crowds. "What kind of man did you go into the wilderness to see? Was he a weak reed, swayed by every breath of wind? 25 Or were you expecting to see a man dressed in expensive clothes? No, people who wear beautiful clothes and live in luxury are found in palaces. 26 Were you looking for a prophet? Yes, and he is more than a prophet.

John 5:33,35
33 In fact, you sent investigators to listen to John the Baptist, and his testimony about me was true. 35 John was like a burning and shining lamp, and you were excited for a while about his message.

Hebrews 10:35-37 (Scripture)
35 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. 37 "For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.
